Sailor style jeans

I made a pair of Burda 8488 in denim the other day. I have a pair in light denim already (never photographed and blogged)  which I have worn a lot. It's my lazy-can't-be-bothered-to-make-an-effort pair of jeans. When I saw this dark lightweight denim at my local fabric shop and I thought I should make another pair that is a little dressier. So here they are.

little nautical detail
and stripey wedges of course

As if I sensed the news to come when I made them last week....I'm in need of more nautical fashions. I am moving to the UK's south-west coast soon. My husband just found out on Monday where we will be posted to next. We were hoping to move back to Germany for a few years but instead we are being transferred to Devon. I was a bit disappointed for a second as I would have loved living closer to my family and friends again, at least for a while. But on second thought, living close to the seaside in one of the most beautiful areas in the UK really isn't too bad. In fact I am now very much looking forward to the move. Please message me if you are living anywhere in the the area. I'd like to meet some local sewing buddies, vintage enthusiast or sport fanatics.

These trousers make me feel like Buster Keaton...

I made a long leg version of my wool-y shorts to see how this pattern turns out. I loved the shorts so much and wide legged trousers are my favourite trouser style, so I went ahead and made them up in a salt and pepper suiting material and I must say I am in love. They were straight forward to make. Well, just like the shorts just longer.....and no cuffs.

I added buttons to the waistband again so I can wear them with my vintage braces and must say I feel a little Buster Keaton, wearing them. To me, that's a good thing. I can see more versions in the future.

There was a little bit of fabric left over from the trousers which I turned into a matching beret. I am getting prepared to brave the colder temperatures coming.

And a picture with kitty for good measure.

She hates being picked up, can you tell?

Anyone else sewing for the colder days in the near future? If yes, what are you making?

Autumn shorts, a modern vintage girl mash up through the decades...

I have changed the look of the blog a bit. After years of brown I felt it was time for a change. I am not sure if I will keep it this way but for now I am happy with it. I just wanted it to look a little fresh. Like the Autumn air I suppose.

I guess it's time to pack up the Summer dresses and get the warmer items of clothing out. Or how about taking some Summer staples such as shorts and make them suitable for colder temperatures.
I did just that and made myself some wool shorts yesterday. I am very pleased with how they turned out. They look quite 1960s, I think.

I used New Look 6873 view E and must say I love this pattern. I just remember that I haven't added the little detail on the cuffs but they don't really seem to need it. The only thing I added, that isn't part of the pattern, are the buttons to hold the braces. I got them on Etsy a couple of weeks or so ago and plan to add the buttons to a few more trousers and shorts to wear them with the braces.
I think I will be making the long trousers next.

I made the blouse, too. I tried making them with pre WW2 fashion in mind. I frankensteined the blouse together, added a Peter Pan collar and extra long cuffs for detail. I am very much into making blouses at the moment or separates in general. I usually sew a lot of dresses but with the temperatures dropping and layering becoming more necessary, separates make sense.

I hope you likey?

1940s blitz blouse and super high waisted trousers....a sewing/outfit post at last!!!!!!!!!

It's been ages since I have posted anything I have made and it's about time that I change that and start breaking the cycle of blogging laziness. I am trying to ease myself back into it. Not that easy but I remember how much I used to enjoy blogging and sharing my thoughts and creations with you guys.

This week I decided to start working on some of the vintage patterns I bought over the summer. I posted about a bunch of vintage blouse patterns in May and finally got around to making simplicity 4139. I got inspired after reading this post and remembered I had the pattern myself.

It was super easy to whip up. I used a very light cotton lawn in a pretty red floral print. I have the same material in green still waiting to be transformed. I think I might make another blouse from it.

I combined the blouse with one of my Autumn/Winter collection staple pieces. Extreme high waisted wide legged trousers.
I think I am really getting into 1940s designs for the winter. I need more from that period.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I did....It was the calm before the storm. We're moving next weekend. Boooooooooooo, not looking forward to the mess but I am looking forward to our new place. It'll only be for a few months until we'll be moving again but that's army lifer for you. Be prepared for possible house/moving posts coming up.

A new pair of jeans and Me Made March day 6- 11

To start off, I haven't got a picture of day 6 (Sunday) It wasn't spectacular, I was wearing the nautical jersey top from day 1 again with jeans. I went for an all day walk with a friend so I needed something easy and comfortable to wear.

day 7
I wore this dress.

day 8
Dress blogged here.

day 9
skirt blogged here and top here

day 10
dress blogged here

day 11
A new pair of jeans and do I love them. I really wanted to have a pair of dark high waisted jeans and here they are. They are made from my very trusted Burda pattern, however I did cut the legs a little slimmer, which still leaves them wide enough for me but not as huge as the patterns intends. I also skipped the front flap detail and added buttons straight onto the main trousers. I need your opinion on the buttons. I really liked them in the shop and I think they work with the red blouse combination but do they look a bit clown-ish? What do you think?

Addicted to trousers

 I guess it's winter?!?
I think I have a problem, I am addicted to making trousers. Must be the time of year and all that snow currently falling out of the sky everywhere.....
Well I have made another pair of trousers but this one is not the Burda pattern. That would just be boring after a while. I decided to make a shorter pair that won't be hanging in the slush that will follow the snow fall shortly. The other two pairs I made before are very long so I can wear them with heels, this one even works with wellies. Tried it today.

Although I did make a different pattern, I still kept the button up front detail because I love that look. It kind of instantly says vintage or retro to me. The button up front on this one however is different to the Burda one, which is only and interfaced panel attached to the front of the trousers. This one is more like the Kasia skirt on Burdastyle and features pockets. Very awesome detail in the cold part of the year because you can warm your hands and hide the millions of tissues used. Hahaha.

When I first made up the trousers, they were absolutely massive on me, not even close to my size. I don't know what happened there but some major alterations were in order.

slightly clown-ish looking at this stage. This is still without the waist facing/waist band

But I got there in the end. Had to take them in all the way down on the side seams which worked very well. I also had to add a dart to each side of the front section behind the panel/
I love the buttons. My husband got them for me. They are actually from the Number 1 Uniform and Mess Dress but I had a whole card of them. They go well with the material. I got this in Brighton two weeks ago. Hubby and I went down to Brighton while he was home on leave. Ditto fabrics is just such a god place for fabric shopping. This is a Paul Smith wool mix from the last collection. Couldn't say n to it. I also have it in grey.
Ready to face the snowy world out there. This is the temperature check! Will they keep me warm? I had to change the boots to wellies due to slushy weather conditions. I must say I kept warm and love the new addition to my trouser collection.
I am planing a small jacket made from what's left of the fabric.
